The Idaho Transportation Department (ITD) will complete final design of roadway improvments on U.S. 30 from Crystal Springs Road to Old Oregon Trail Road, which includes two new bridges in the project area over Portneuf River. This project is part of a larger effort to improve U.S. 30 between McCammon and Soda Springs.

Description

The Portneuf River Bridges project will complete final design of the Crystal Springs Road to Old Oregon Trail roadway improvements, as well as final design of two U.S. 30 bridges over the Portneuf River and associated road work. The final design is expected to be completed in the summer of 2008. The public will be invited to an open house to view the latest project information and construction schedule.

Background

Approximately 13 miles of major widening and realignment from McCammon to Fish Creek (west of Soda Springs) was carried through preliminary design, public hearing and environmental approval in 2003, in three development segments.

Segment Two, approximately 3.5 miles, from Topaz Bridge to just west of Lava Hot Springs was developed through final design and is currently under construction.

Final design is required for Segments One and Three. The McCammon to Topaz project covers part of Segment One between Crystal Springs Road and Old Oregon Trail Road. Additional funding will be necessary to design and construct the remaining improvements in Segment One between McCammon and Crystal Springs Road.

Funding and Schedule

The final design of the U.S. 30 Portneuf River Bridges project is funded through the GARVEE Transportation program. Construction is scheduled to begin in September 2008 and be complete in Fall 2010.
