The Idaho Transportation Department (ITD) rehabilitated and resurfaced 6.1 miles of Interstate 84 between the Broadway Avenue and Eisenman Road (Isaacs Canyon) interchanges in 2007 and 2008. The improvements made the road safer and the ride smoother for motorists.

Background

The Broadway to Eisenman section of I-84 was built in 1968 and was expected to have a useful life of 20 to 30 years. The rehabilitation project extended the roadway life another 20 years.

This project began in Septemeber 2007 and was complete in May 2008. The project involved cracking the original concrete pavement and overlaying it with asphalt. The technique allowed the transportation department to keep two lanes open in both directions for daytime traffic in the heaviest-traveled part of the project.

Western Construction of Boise was the contractor for this project.

Funding

The I-84, Broadway to Eisenman project was funded through the GARVEE Transportation Program. The program allows Idaho to use proceeds from Grant Anticipation Revenue Vehicle (GARVEE) bonds to expedite interstate improvements. The project cost $12 million.
